Club Scrap Cantina Blog Hop

Welcome to the Club Scrap Cantina bloghop.
If you arrived here from Lisa's blog you are in the right place.  If you arrived here from somewhere else and would like to start at the beginning of the bloghop, go HERE to the Club Scrap blog

I get my digital kit on the first day of the month.  The Cantina kit looked perfect for some Birthday Party scrapping!  So I dug through my photos and found these of my daughter and her Aunt.  They celebrate October birthday's together!

I use Panstoria Artisan software for my digital scrapbooking.  I cut and pasted three of the photo frames on the pink QDDL (Quick Drop Digital Layouts) onto the yellow sunshine paper and added the banner overlay, a title, minimal journaling and the margarita to the page.  Easy peasy!

This month my Club Stamp kit arrived in plenty of time before the bloghop for me to make some cards!

There's a trend in the crafting world to make your own plaid.  All you need is a stamp with some lines on it.  The Art Nouveau stamp had the four lines so I decided to try it.  The orange was a little bold and overpowered the yellow a bit but it's still a cute background.

Come back to my blog on Monday August 3rd to see another Club Scrap Cantina Card I made for the Cards in Envy Challenge blog.

Next up on the blog hop list is Marya Kaszubinski.  If you would like to start at the beginning of the blog hop head on over to the

Astronaut's Wives Club

I just finished catching up on all the episodes available of The Astronaut's Wives Club.  If you grew up in the 1960s during the space race with the Russians, this show is a definite must watch!  This was an especially exciting time for my family as my father and two uncles worked for Martin-Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) the company building the rockets for the space capsules.  We were privileged to have signed posters by astronauts on our bedroom walls.  When John Glenn orbited earth for the first time, our school had a TV in the classroom to watch the launch and spashdown!
The sets and clothing are true to the period.  The show doesn't just focus on the Space program, it also brings the civil rights turmoil of the time period, Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Kennedy assassination.  A recent episode brings to light women pilots testifying before Congress to become part of the Space program.  We all know how long that took before it actually happened.
The journeys the wives of the astronauts are just as interesting as the journey the astronauts took.  The cultural norm of the 1960s housewife looks so out of place in today's world.  Some of the wives chafed against it.  The show has grabbed my interest enough to read the book and see what was left out of the show (we all know the book is better than the movie or TV show).
I am so a product of that time period.  My love of Science Fiction books stems from all that was going on during my formative years.  If you would like a trip down nostalgia lane of a time when America achieved the impossible, this is the show to watch.

Happy Crafting and TV watching!

The Crooked Stamper Challenge #6

Leslie Hannah over at The Crooked Stamper has been doing monthly challenges.  The minute I saw the sketch I knew I wanted to use my new Tim Holtz Teacups!

Stamp is Verve "One Cup."  I always like how Leslie blogs about her crafting failures so here's the story on this card.  I wanted to pop the cups up with foam tape.  I realized I had forgotten to stamp the sentiment before I put the foam tape on the back of the cups.  I had to go over the sentiment with a white Signo pen to fix the areas that didn't stamp.

Join Leslie this month for her challenge over at The Crooked Stamper.

The last few Cards for OWH

My box of cards for Operation Write Home goes out to the Post Office tomorrow.  I want to be sure it gets there before August 1st (the deadline!).  I made six birthday cards from a 12x12 piece of DP.  I made 3 a little more feminine and 3 more masculine or generic.  Here's the two types of cards together.

Polkadoodles Ltd

The challenge for is for us to CASE ourselves (a non-Christmas Card to a Christmas Card).  I made two cards and CASE'd myself off of this card:
Crafty Colonel Donna Nuce, Close to My Heart Taste of Summer Stamp Set, for CSSC #5 challenge.
For my first card I used sponsor's images from DeeDee's Digis and MHK designs.  I flipped the card on it's side for this CASE.  I scored the star ornaments and folded them to get a 3d effect and popped the background paper also.  The stars and sentiment are coated with Wink of Stella for a nice sparkle.

My second card uses stamps from Paper Sweeties.  The stars are coated with a Wink of Stella.

I got my Apron Strings All Year Cheer Card Kit and it had some great Red, White & Blue papers in it.  I decided to play along at the Cards in Envy Red, White & Blue Challenge.  The cards must be A2 size and flat enough to mail.

I used the the Cardabilities sketch #125 as my starting point.  Perfect hero card for my last box of cards going to Operation Write Home since they are closing down on 1 August.  If you are sending cards to OWH you must mail them to arrive before 1 August.
